Rebuilt Racks

Hi,

I have some experience with this subject. A few years ago I had a slight
leak and a reputable dealer in Sacramento agreed to rebuild it in house with
the caveat that if it failed it was at my expense. Fail it did and not long
after; the funny part is that AAMCO tried to sell me a transmission rebuild
due to the rack leak. I didn't believe it was leaking and had AAMCO do
their "free" diagnosis. Fortunately, I went back to the dealer, and got a
factory rebuilt rack, and the dealer gave me credit for the rebuild which he
didn't have to do. The machining tolerances are simply too tight to
accomplish practical rebuilds "in the field" is how it was explained to me.
Every knowledgeable Audi workshop, and their mechanics, have told he the
same thing.

The factory rebuilt is more expensive but is the only practical way to solve
the problem. I'm going to need another in the foreseeable future and I'll
be shopping around and will try Shokan first. They're in the vendors list
on the web site.

Good Luck.

Cheers!

Jim Jordan
