  I seen a VW Vanagon today which had a very unique item on it!

The power steering pump, which is very similar, if not identical to my
88-90's, had a "clutch assembly" on its pulley.  I was told it works
to engage the pump when a turn is being made, and while the vehicle
is being driven straight, the pump is not turning!

Wonder if such a system could be rigged up to the infamous "Bomb"
Think of the wear you would save it from!
