200q: Driveshaft bearing and CVs

Hi folks,
I was at the shop the other day talking with the mechanic. At the time, I
thought my boost-leak problem was in the clutch bearing. He heard the noise and
we put it up on the lift. He took a little walk around my Q and checked the
play in the center drive-shaft. He said that it felt very sloppy to him and
that I should replace the center-drive shaft bearing. At the same time, he said
that while the drive-shaft is out he'd repack the CVs.
I saw the play in the driveshaft and it did seem much looser then it
*should* be. But then again, I have no idea how tight it should be. The price
for the work is good, so I'm considering having him do it. He said that he can
get the bearing through a friend that imports parts directly from Germany
(thereby avoiding the entire "buy the whole driveshaft" baloney from the
dealer).
What's the opinons out there in Audi-land on this?
