Things dealers say to get you to buy a car

I was at Carlsen last friday to see if they had any '98 30V A4Q's. They
had one that was sold so I couldn't test drive it. It was a manual.
All the press has been saying that the 30V V6 A4's will only be
available with an automatic. Carlsen will be getting 12 5-sp A4Q's in
the next three months (8 of which are supposedly sold). The salesguy
was also told by Audi that only autoboxes will be available, and then
they got manuals. He wasn't sure if they'll be able to get any more.
Does anyone know the story here? Also, the price went up by $600 for
the base car - the options are the same price. Not bad for a more
powerfull engine and 2 more airbags.

They expect the A4 Avant later this year, as we all know. I was told
that it will only be available with the 1.8T engine. I hadn't
heard/read this before. It sounds suspect to me.

They expect the new A6 in a couple of months, earlier then the press has
been reporting. I was also told that prices will be a bit higher than
the current A6, which is different from the articles I read in the
press. A nicely loaded A6Q will be $45K instead of $40K.

While the salesguy seemed to know the product, I got the feeling he was
blowing smoke up my ass to get me to plunk down a deposit on one of the
remaining '98 A4Q's that haven't been sold...

Carlsen is only ordering quattro's, unless a customer requests
otherwise. And it looks like most of the 12 30V A4Q's have the sport
package, including a silver/grey-leather one I lust after that is still
looking for a buyer!
