RE: VW taking on Mercedes

It's already been done (well, almost).  An A2 chassis Golf Syncro AWD,
raised suspension, push bar/brush guard on the front, spare tire on
trunk, sport seats and steering wheel inside.

It was sold as a "Golf Country" in Europe but VWoA never thought it
worthwhile to bring to North America.
