S2 update
Hi All!
Since several people have asked how the S2 I'm building for Pro Rally is
coming a long, I thought I would post this to the list and kill two
birds with one stone, so to speak.
Today I just finished the removal of the last large items; drivetrain
(everything expect the engine which I already removed), exhaust, fuel
lines, brake lines, calipers, and steering rack. Tomorrow I will
remove the rest of the remaining wiring and miscellaneous other stuff,
then it's off to the frame shop to have the right frame rail moved back
an 1/8" or so. Next it will be off to the acid dippers to have the
paint, undercoating, and sound deadening material cleanly removed.
I probably won't be taking the car to the frame shop for a couple of
weeks, since next weekend I'm out of town visiting family in San Diego,
and the following weekend is the Virginia City Hill Climb (time to smoke
some Ferraris ;-). Anyway, once the car is back from the frame shop,
and after being dipped (I always think of that movie Who Framed Roger
Rabbit, when I say that, maybe because of the queasy feeling I get when
I think of my baby going into an acid bath ?? :-) we can begin the
process of welding up all of the factory spot welded seams (so the car
doesn't shake itself apart), then begin the design (actually we've
already pretty much done this part) and building of the rollcage.
Now that the car is almost completely stripped, the part I actually
enjoy can begin, (I HATE taking apart stock cars) of building the car.
I *am* actually going to get off my ass and take some pictures of the
car, and one way or another get them up on the net for all to see.
Maybe while I'm in San Diego I'll go buy a digital camera ??
Anyway, if you have any questions, feel free to fire me off an email!
The estimated time of completion is still sometime in the month of
October.
Best Regards,
Mark Nelson
