Re: Oil change intervals

I don't know about special break-in oil put in at the factory, but I stuck to
Audi's schedule during the first year (April '96 - March '97) and still
experienced what I consider to be significant oil consumption. That seems to
have improved considerably. Regardless, the oil and filter should be changed
at least every 3,000 miles. If you don't put very much mileage on your car
over the course of a year, I would change the oil even if it has less than
3,000 miles on it. To me, changing the oil and filter is a rather
inexpensive form of important preventive maintenance. Use of synthetic oil
may allow for longer intervals. And the way the car is driven and the
environment also must be considered.

There are many A4's on the road that have been leased and will be turned in
at the end of the lease. I would guess that most of those "owners" will
stick to Audi's schedule and not have the oil and filter changed more
frequently.
