True, you don;t have to.  I use the rule of thumb that you should cut
the manufacturer's recommendation by 1/2.  I don;t have time
to go into all the rationale, but It's not religion.  OTOH, I have no
data to prove that this extra $40/yr makes a difference, but it 
doesn't hurt.
