Window regulators

You need to get it off.  The cable passes through it, and is secured by a 
clamped-on nipple that sits in a recess in the back of the slider.
 
To get it off, you have to drill out the centre of one of the pulleys at the 
ends of the track.  Later, you will have to substitute a nut and bolt for this 
pulley and file the ends down.

The cable is (should be) in one piece - the ends are in the motor.
