Tyres for an 80 sport and heavy clutches.

I need some new front tyres for my '85 80 sport, they should be 185 60
14's. Does anyone have any suggestions for a reasonable compromise between
grip and life? They must also be available in the UK. I don't want to get
soundly berated by this but are there any good quality remoulds that would
suit or is it really not worth any saving?

With reference to the posting on a heavy clutch, I recently had mine
replaced together with the release shaft. This transformed the feel of my
clutch from fairly heavy to ridiculously light (in comparison). Mine is a
cable operated clutch so I don't think it is relevant to the posting but if
anyone is having probs with a cable operated clutch try inspecting the
release shaft. It should be a nice cam profile, mine was far from this. I
was shown the old part by the garage after the event, it is otherwise quite
hard to inspect (impossible?) without removing the gearbox.

If anyone can tell me why I am in work at ten to five on a Sunday evening
I'll buy them one of those 4wd porsches in the recent ish of european car
that puts out 700 odd horsepower. Well they may have to settle for a fruit
scone but the thought would be there.

TIA (getting the hang of this!)

Graham.
