A4 1.8Tq Remus exhaust
Finally had my Remus exhaust upgrade fitted to my 1.8Tq.
Remus are an Austrian company with a wide range of custom exhausts designed
specifically for each application.
It consists of rear section (behind resonator) and muffler, with 2 huge
exit pipes beautifully finished in chrome - rounded rectangles each pipe
measuring 92x78mm.
Impressions:
Really looks the business - *very* well constructed, specifically for the
model with large muffler contoured to fit the rear well perfectly.
Contrary to my expectations it is not noisy - sounds much deeper and smoother.
The car has lost that tinny 1.8 4 cylinder sound unbefitting its 187hp (MTM)
Now it burbles beautifully under power but in a very understated way (very
Audi). On reflection I am sure the exhaust would have to comply with
European noise/emission regs.
The car feels smoother and more responsive, although I would be the first to
admit this is a very subjective impression - we all like to think our upgrades
are effective. I am sure there is less turbo lag and transitions are smoother.
Performance is measurably up, although not spectacularly so with about a 0.2s
drop in 0-100kph (7.3s), 80-110 (3.9s), and 100-130 (4.3s) times. Taking
manufacturers claims and my experience into consideration I would estimate
the power increase to be in the order of 10-15hp.
