You sure that was R134A and not the Pennzoil Frig-C?
Sounds more like the latter.  I thought conversion to 
R134A was more involved.

At any rate, there appear to be lots of inexpensive options
out there now, that will allow us to keep running our
older vehicles and keep them cool too :)
