'89 200TQ + Boge + bushings (long)
Hi Igor:
Very timely post for me since I'm looking to do the same thing to
our '87 5ktqw. The car fits the same criteria: wife's daily driver and
kid-hauler and cargo-hauler for me which I get to maintain. So far,
all I've done is add a stiffer WG spring for 1.8 bar. Looking for
bigger intercooler too. Anyone found a stock swap i.e. cheap?
I've decided not to lower the car with stiffer springs for now based
on Scott J's input re: maintaining stock roll center. After looking at
Koni/Bilstein for $400-500, I'm looking at Boge TG with which I've been
happy with in 2 other 5k's. I'd really like to try to adapt the Boge TG to
the rear like you did since I don't want the softer stock hydraulic units.

Since you changed the inserts from the top, how did you
replace the strut bearings?? I assume you're referring
to the strut bearing as 'strut mounts'. I have the Zelenda
tool for doing the inserts which makes it easy.
I'm in the Easton, PA area and I believe you're in the Philly area.
Any chance of borrowing/renting/buying your fabricated socket
for the rear shock nut? I guess I can get the local machine shop to
cut the nut down to 18mm. What nuts are they?
Drilling the holes for the sleeves sound easy using a regular drill.
What did you use to make the actual sleeves?
Did I miss anything as far as modifications and special tools needed
and are the rears doable in a weekend? I've done rears before and with
a machine shop compressing the springs, only took an hour or so per side.
TIA,
