Fwd: 1998 Audi A4 2.8 Available Now

For Those of you interested, this is what audi issued in a press release
today:

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Audi of America, Inc. today
announced that its new 1998 A4 2.8 model is now available. With a base
price
of $28,120, the 2.8 marks the next generation of the original A4 model first
introduced in the fall of 1995.
This new model takes all the essential attributes of the A4 and
makes it
better by giving the driver more. More power, more control and more
choices.
At its heart is a 2.8 liter DOHC (double overhead cam) V-6 engine with five
valves per cylinder and variable intake valve timing. This combination
delivers more power and more torque (190 horsepower at 6000 revolutions per
minute and 207 lbs. ft. of torque at 3200 rpm), propelling the A4 2.8 manual
to 60 mph in just 7.1 seconds.
Five-valve technology offers significant advantages over
conventional
two-valve and even four-valve engines. Thanks to the greater efficiency of
the five-valve power plant, this new configuration provides more torque and
power while reducing fuel consumption even further. That's why the new A4
2.8
gets the same or better mileage than the model it replaces. This is the
same
technology that has made the A4 1.8 T such a success in the showroom and on
 the street.
The A4 2.8 driver gains more control for 1998 through the addition
of a
five-speed automatic with Tiptronic(R)* as the A4's optional transmission
(at
an MSRP of $1,075). Tiptronic can either be operated as a normal automatic
transmission or it can be upshifted and downshifted manually using a special
shift gate. Audi's five-speed manual transmission remains the A4's standard
 transmission.
While available in both Audi's FrontTrak(TM) front wheel drive and
quattro
full-time all wheel drive, front wheel drive A4's now benefit from a
standard
ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation) system giving the driver full-time, all-speed
 traction control.
The A4 has always been a true high-end European sports sedan.
 This new
model offers its owner a level of refinement and sophistication unsurpassed
by
any A4 sold here to date. Start with the wide array of standard features
you
have come to expect from the A4 2.8 including a fully automatic climate
control system with sun intensity control and pollen filter, power central
locking system, 60/40 split folding rear seatbacks with individual locks,
leather wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, power windows and heated
outside mirrors, front and rear foglights and genuine walnut wood trim. Now
add standard front side airbags mounted in the outboard seat bolster to the
driver and passenger front airbags and you get class-leading safety
features.
Since we don't live in a perfect world, we have also added a standard
emergency warning triangle located inside the trunk lid.
The interior of the A4 2.8 now comes standard with Jacquard satin
cloth
upholstery. It is available in three colors-Anthracite, Slate Blue and
Titanium. Buyers can also select Cognac leather as a new interior choice.
Cognac joins Titanium, Ecru and Anthracite as the available colors for our
Kodiak leather seat upholstery and interior trim. As in all Audi's,
leatherette upholstery remains available as an option at no extra charge in
 Anthracite, Ecru and Titanium.
Some drivers demand even greater handling prowess. For those who
want to
push the envelope further, the A4 2.8 can be ordered with a sports
performance
package that is more than skin deep. This package includes a 20 millimeter
lower sport suspension with firmer shock and spring settings, new
seven-spoke
 16 inch (7J x 16) cast light alloy wheels, Dunlop 205/55-16" SP 8000 ZR
performance tires and a three-spoke sport steering wheel. All this gives
the
driver greater performance than ever before on a factory equipped A4 sold on
these shores at a low MSRP of $400.
Like all Audis, the A4 2.8 can be ordered with the optional All
Weather
Package. This package includes heatable front seats with individual
temperature controls, heated driver's side door lock, heated outside mirrors
and windshield washer nozzles, and an expandable ski/storage sack.
Other options include the powerful and acoustically excellent
Bose(R)*
Music System, a power glass sunroof, three-spoke sport steering wheel, and a
trip computer with Auto-check system and driver information display. An
Audi
six-disc CD changer and cellular telephone are also available.
A broad palette of exterior color choices remain as standard
colors.
Optional "Cool Shades" and Audi's popular Pearl Effect White paint are
 available at an extra cost.
Something you don't have to pay extra for on an Audi A4 is the
remarkable
Audi Advantage. It is standard equipment as it is with all Audi's sold in
the
U.S. This top-rated -- and sometimes imitated -- combination of warranties
 and protection includes:
           * Three-year/50,000 mile no charge scheduled maintenance.
           * Three-year/50,000 mile limited new vehicle warranty.
           * Ten-year limited warranty against corrosion perforation.
           * 24-hour Roadside Assistance for three years (services provided
by the
        Professional Dispatch Group).
