Re: 5000/100/200 Heater Control valves

Dave is right, Run fast!! Two years ago on a hot California day
with the AC on and the radio too loud my heater control value
blew while doing 80 down the 405. The cheap $35 plastic valve
ended up costing me $2000 to have the head rebuilt because the
engine over heated. So everyone, go replace your heater control
     valve now!!!

If yer heater control valve (directly in front of steering rack) is over 6
years old and real yellow, run - don't walk to the dealer and get a
replacement. Keep yer old one as a spare. Had one blow today and all coolant
exited within about 1 minute - thereby NOT showing on the temp guage. Yer
only warning will be the overheat/low level warning.
Of course, I always run synthetic to provide the extra protection in these
cases - even though I was stuck inna turn lane and had to wait a bit to get
parked, no apparent damage.
Dealer cost - 35.00, avail mail order/discounted at about 18.00...
