I admit to not having a rulebook since 90. The only street prep I had
done was on an MGB for DSP. Not competitive, but man, it is a blast to
drive (street AND track).

Sorry to rain on anyone's parade (I should have included this in the
original post), but the proposed class is limited to 10 years or younger
cars. Meaning the era of Audi-tanks are eligible.
Also, any aftermarket lsd's are illegal. That was my reasoning that a
quattro (er, awd) would not be allowed in this class. Yes, it is stock,
but it is an advantage.

Finally, the engine, trans and emissions equip must be original/stock.

I remember this class was being debated in 90 or so. I thought it was a
joke. Now looking at it from the side of an enthusiast who wants to
modify the suspension of my A4, I think its a good idea. Now I won't get
thrown to the wolves of Saleen mustangs (or whatever lurks in ESP).

Over the last several racing seasons, I had seen many Xgeners
participate in events with slightly modified cars just to get thrown to
the wolves or to race in a 'beginner' class just to get beat by some
sugar-daddy with a very fast car.
Maybe they would race in just 1 or 2 events, never to be seen again. At
least this class will get some competition going for these folks and
maybe retain them. The average age of the SCCAer is in the 40s or 50s or
something.

Finally, this is a proposed class. 3.0L engines could be allowed, maybe
1980 vintage cars would make the cut.

Sorry for the low Audi content.
