Bzzzt. The Quantum Syncro is exactly the same as the 4000 quattro
mechanically, including both the front and rear suspensions. Now,
the FWD Quantum is not the same as the FWD 4000 in the rear suspension,
though.

The Quantum's is the only VW Syncro that is the same as the quattro
from that vintage. The other VW Syncros (Golf, Vanagon) have a transverse
engine orientation and a viscous-coupled center differential that
operates mostly as a FWD until slip occurs, then it directs torque to
the rear.

The new 98+ Passat's Syncro system will really be quattro again.
Deja vu.
