Even worse... I remember myself and my girlfriend passing on the train
the Yugo-town
(Kragujevac???)... We where on the vacation in the "Capitalist
Super-land" (i.e. Yugoslavia);
our money was a mere $200 or so/per guy/girl. True, the hotels where
CHEAP - but we had
really watch for what we spend. Anyway, as we passed the city we thougt
- we never ever
will have enough money to buy a "Crevena Zastava" - the name of the Yugo
used in the
East Block.
In the fact, the "bad" Zastava (for Yugo/Hungarian market) was the best
car our money in
Hungary could buy. Everything else was far worse. But even this was
relative: my friends
from the East Germany where jealous, it WAS possible to buy a Zastava in
Hungary.
Today... khm, khm...
1) My friend in (East???) Germany has a Toyota Carina (an
almost-Camry).
2) I had a year of "fighting" with my not-anymore-girlfriend (she was
"promoted" to "wife"
a few years ago). The main topic of the fight was, who will drive
the '95 Mitsubishi
Diamante wagon and who the not-really-loved '95 Chevy Lumina.
The fight was settled a few days ago after I bought a '97 A6 Quattro
wagon for myself.
Unfortunately, somewhat was gone forever - 17 years!!!
I would give my Audi (and my wife's Mitsu) in exchange of a slightly
rear-ended '80 Zastava
and these 17 years. (My friend wouldn't hasitate to give his
house+Toyota Carina for
a Trabant+17 years, too.)
Ehhhhhh........
