Well their made from plastic also so....

I recently replaced mine because it showed signs of
"weeping" from the 
rotating piece, that connects to the control cable.

Other than that it was in good shape!  It had been in the
car since new,
plus spent several years in Arizona summers!   

The problem stems from the cooling system pressurizing up
to 20psi, and 
the plastic the valve is made from, getting brittle from
all the years of heat!

Replacement is cheap insurance!
