I too faced the aftermarket window regulator question.  The replacement
is made in Italy and is similiar in design to the rear window regulators
which are NOT cable operated.  But I questioned having to modify the
door by drilling holes in it and was warned by my mechanic that the
speed would be different from OEM.  So I spent the bux and the window
works as it did when new.
