Hearing, I guess.  The point is to cause the vacuum leak to suck in
something that is fuel-like.  Causes the engine to increase speed.

So what you do is apply the stream of *unlit* propane, starting on a very
low setting, to suspected/potential vacuum leak points.  Allow enough time
to let the propane clear between test areas.  I guess if you don't find
anything, turn up the propane flow a bit.

Also to get a feel for what it will sound like when you find the leak, just
let some get sucked into the intake.
