87 5000SQ A/C

The A/C in my 5000 is not putting out enough cold... I think that it is 
putting out some cold air, but I also noticed that when first started the 
compressor cycles on and off. Could this be the low freon pressure switch 
cutting out? I'm not sure if the freon has ever been recharged before, 
and was wondering if the general consensus of the list figures that a 
recharge on a 10-11 year old A/C  system is reasonable...
