In the early 1970s, when the new shape Jaguar (XJ6) came out, the first one I
ever saw roared up our street and parallel-parked opposite in a single reverse
sweep. The owner was so delighted with his prowess that he flung the driver's
door open with a flourish - and a passing Ford took it off cleanly at the
hinges. He was left, sitting there, with a stunned expression.

Yup - over here anyone "introducing an obstruction onto the highway" is liable,
too. And woe betide you if they think it was deliberate - a consequence of
laws aimed at the new habit of dropping lumps of concrete off motorway bridges
onto commuters.
