When I had the darn thing lock up on me once, I did a "percussive
maintenance" on it....  Using a rubber mallet, I clobbered the release
button several times, with growing intensity.  The brake did release
after a bit.  Now, I keep the mallet in my emergency roadside kit in the
trunk, just in case.
