Just a thanks to all who helped.
Total Bill $453.....

Here's how I got cold:

I removed condensor on my back in the rain....Thanks to Ian Duff
particularly and others....20 minutes to pull nuts and screws...20 minutes
looking and pulling to get her to slide out.  The condensor was
terminal...un-weldable...gone...goo-bye.  Rogers Radiator repair in Medford
sold me a new aftermarket "Rahn" for $240 (as opposed to $725 Audi)...minor
modification of bracket required.
Fenelon Auto Repair of Exeter (walking distance from my motorcycle at home)
did the replacement of condensor and charge with lengthy evacuation to be
on the safe side.  Bill for that is $213....not bad considering that R12 is
going for about $3 and ounce and I think the system takes around 3.5 lbs.
OK, $453 is some cash and we'll have to see how it holds, but it sure beats
the hell out of the  $1100+ I was quoted.  Now, if I can just make it home
on my (oops I forgot) uninspected bike....

Result: a cool ride to Watkins Glen this weekend in the forecast 90+ degree
weather that's forecast.
