Your ignition switch saga sounds like the one I had with my car.
I fixed the bulbs in the dash myself, hardest part was to remove it. You   
remove screws under the steering wheel, remove the plastic cover behind   
the wheel, it exposes two screws holding the instrument panel. Maneouvre   
the instrument panel out of the dash remove the electrical connections on   
the back side of it and replace faulty bulbs.
