Rallye Golf?

Both Passat and Quattro Lists are getting this...
Spotted an early 80's VW golf today..(83-84)...light faded red color,
that kind of looked like an older GTI.
Did not look very clean, so I didn't really think about it until it
was turning away.
The badges read "Rallye Golf" which of course was the awd VW system.
Soooooo...
(1)  Are there any here in the US or was this merely badge
engineeering?
(2)  Bumper sticker had New Dimensions name on it.  Aren't a couple
of you lister pretty familiar with these guys (San Jose, CA)?
(3)  Anyone have a contact they can ask about this car?
(4)  When were these made?  It almost looked like an ~83 GTi.
