IMHO, this is normal. Don't sweat the little details. I believe it is because the oil has drained back to the pan, and the hydraulic lifters need to fill up upon startup. My '92 100S does pretty much just what you are describing... and it has not been a problem for 118k miles!!

If I may tempt the gods, and dare say it, this car, with the V-6 has been EXTREMELY reliable... it's been the best car I have ever owned. It has adequate power, is very SMOOTH (sometimes you can't tell the car is running....), and has been very reliable. In other words, I don't have a lot to complain about...

Now... I hope the Audi gods don't strike in my direction, in retaliation for all that praise.... you know... to keep me humble... :-)
