Engine Clatter

Since the day I bought my 20V there has been a clatter in the engine.
The noise kind of sounds like a loose chain clatter.  It is not real
apparent when the engine is idling, but from 1000rpm to around 1500rpm
the sound is there.  I put my ear on a screwdriver (handle end) and
moved the metal end from the front to the rear of the intake manifold.
The noise seemed to be louder as I moved to the back of the manifold and
around the distributor.  

Does anyone know what this sound is, and if it is easy to fix  Any and
all help would be greatly appreciated.
