I drive a sweaty V8.
I think that a good portion of the problem stems from the intensity of the
sun down here.  To give you an idea, I will get sunburnt in the middle of
winter after about 15-20 minutes. Last year in Maui in June I was spending
the better part of  the mornings playing in the sun with no protection &
all I got was a tan.  So by the time the sun has done its job on the car
for a few hours the aircon is incapable of removing enough of the energy
stored in the car.
