RE: Has anyone tried CC pads on cross-drilled rotors?
Give Paul Weston at Weston Motorsports (610.558.0631) a call. He spent
the better part of half an hour chatting with me. I plan on using his
carbon/Kevlar pads ($153 front, $96.30 rear, when we spoke in April,
YMMV) with stock rotors when my wallet allows for me to perform the
maintenance, yeah, that's it, maintenance, that my brakes need. He was
of the opinion that slotted or drilled rotors are fine with carbon pads,
but the price increase could be better applied elsewhere given the
performance increase would be apparent only on the track. I also spoke
with Larry at CarboTech (954.493.9669), who has Hawk carbon/metallic
pads, if you supply backing pads. Nice guy, but I can't easily provide
backing pads. I also was in touch with the folks at Best Price/KVR
(800.636.0854), who have drilled, slotted, plain, Brembo drilled, Brembo
slotted, and any other variation of rotor you could think of. They
weren't much help with carbon pads for our Coupes, however. Both Paul
and Larry quoted some kind of standard part number for our pads, D419
front, and D228 rear. Apparently the D228s are very common, and the
D419s are fairly common among Audis. HTH.

Subject: Has anyone tried CC pads on cross-drilled
rotors?
Folks:
I am tiring of the performance of the metalmasters on my CQ.
Two years ago, I replaced the original pads with the
metalmasters,
and replaced the rotors with cross-drilled ones from delta-t
(Bob D'Amato's company).
I would like to move up to Cool Carbon or an equivalent pad,
however, since my rotors still have considerable life left on
them, I would like to continue using them.
The general concensus on the list has been that the CCs work
best with stock or slotted rotors. Has anyone tried to use
a carbon pad on 1. drilled rotors, and 2. has anyone tried
new pads on existing rotors?
I'd appreciate your comments!
