I mounted a bad set of tires on my GTi once.  The vibration above 50 mph was
enough to make me pull over, as I thought one of the wheels was falling off.
 Nope, just the tires.  I know this sounds REALLY stupid, but this was the
worst driving vibration/noise I had ever encountered, and I was sure I had
toasted several drivetrain components.
