Critical dimension?

Before I r/r my ac clutch does anyone know if there is a critical spec
on the reinstall for spacing between the clutch and compressor or ?? I
had heard from a mechanic that if the correct spacing is not maintained
it will destroy the compressor. (probably just wanted to do the work
himself)

If there is a spacing tolerance spec or anything else like that I need
to be aware of, would you please enlighten me?

Car is late 86 5kCST with Nippondenso 10P17 compressor.
