Pulling the Seats -Reply
First of all I'm sure you mean 87 4000 cs quattro. :-)
Second. to remove the seats:
Move the seat all the way back to the last notch.
Under the front edge, in the middle, you should see a hex bolt with a nut.
Remove that.
>From behind the seat look at the inboard seat rail.
You should see a plastic runner covering it to make it look nice.
It is held in place by a single screw at the rear end of this plastic guard.
Remove the screw and slide the guard back and up (not straight up).
At the rear of the outboard seat rail there should be a kind of plug in the
end of the rail. It is held in by a single screw which goes in horizontally.
Remove screw and plug.
Now you should be able to grab the seat adjuster handle and move the
seat all the way back and _out_ of the rails, etc.
Lift the seat and rotate the front edge out of the door first and you should
be home free, (seatless). You may dirty up the carpet where the seat
slides out of the seat rails, but thats the breaks.
I always forget to unclip the seat belt sensor wire before I lift the seat out
of the car, but it usually unclips itself, almost unnoticed.
I suggest unclipping it first before trying to maneuver the seat out of the
car, just in case.
