power windows
-- [ From: Huw Powell * EMC.Ver #3.1a ] --
Eureka! The power window actuator assembly (it's not cable driven, more
like a pantograph type thing) from an 81 5kt will bolt right into an 82
coupe. Three out of four of the main casting bolts go straight into
existing holes. The adjusting swing arm bolt, however, must be attached to
a new hole about 1-1/2" lower than the one it would mate right up to, and
the rearward window clamp bolt had to be mounted using a 5/8" c-c bracket to
accomodate the slight forward rake in the coupe's window motion vs. the
vertical motion in the 5k.
The hardest part was removing the mastic encased original glass clamp.
Anybody know any tricks to do this quicker? It took me an hour or so, with
knives, picks, scrapers, liberal doses of methylene chloride and MEK, then
pliers and a lot of bending and twisting. Not fun.
Now all I have to do is find a place for some switches (I do have some nice
87 5k ones), figure out how to mount them, add a fuse or two, run a mess of
10 GA wire, figure out what to soundproof the door with (not much in there
stock), figure out where my speakers are going to go, run more wires, but
the main thing is
It Goes Up And Down All The Way Without Binding!
Can't wait to do the driver's door.
