My wife had the same requirement. Since 1992 in the USA, all 100 and
subsequently A6 Q Wagons have been automatics. I know that sedans
were offered with 5-speeds some years, but Q wagons were autos. I
wish someone could dispute that, because I would really prefer the
5-speed and would like to know if there are any out there. We've had
our 92 100 CSQW (with auto) almost two years now and we love it. The
off the line performance is, shall we say, leisurely, but it is a
fantastic long distance vehicle. My advice is to go for a used Q, but
settling for a front driver is not the end of the world. We use our
92 100 S as our daily driver and it has actually been more reliable
than the wagon. (See my next post on Audi automatic transmissions.)
Finding a good Q wagon may be difficult, depending on where you are
located. I've seen exactly three other 92+ 100/A6/S6 wagons here in
Albuquerque in the past two years. One was the S6 wagon that sat at
the local dealer for a few months. I would periodically stop by just
     to drool.
