Sounds like the pressure sensor isn't working properly or the connection from
the computer to the dash guage so far...

I give it a little more throttle and the car pulls

Now sounds like the computer is only seeing 0.8 too and is trying hard
to get to 1.4... except it never knows it got there!

One simple thing to check first: what does the dash guage say before you
start the engine?  (Turn the ignition on and give it a few seconds to settle.)
I'm guessing 0.8.

Another simple thing to do is to pull the error codes after this happens.
There is plenty of info in the archives on how to do this, or ask again
if you can't find it.  If you don't have the Bentley, post whatever
error code you get and we can look it up for you.

If you have a pressure guage, plumb it in at the vacuum pipe where
it attaches to the computer and have someone read it while this happens.
