IME dealing with continental companies, most have some staff who speak 
english, often very well, although perhaps a little idiomatically. This is in 
marked contrast to UK firms who appear to take some sort of bizarre pleasure 
in employing telesales staff who have difficulty communicating in their own 
language let alone a foreign one. The school of 'If you speak loudly and 
slowly any d*mn foreigner can understand English' is still alive and well in 
Britain.
