Avus Talk Continued
I had a thought on how an Avus could reach the auto market. Here's
how...if Audi does not build it. That's right. Imagine if you will, an Audi
Avus replica, sort of like Speedster replicas...only better.
I know for a fact that Speedsters and 550s are built now to spec on
assembly lines in South America by Chuck Beck of Beck Enterprises. The kit
car industry is much less stringent than the Auto Industry. For example if
Beck built it, there'd be alot less hoops to jump through than if Audi did.
Specialty Vehicles do not go through the crash testing etc that normal
passenger cars do.
Imagine a custom built chassis using components from the VW/Audi parts
bin. Control arms and suspension setup from say an Audi A4 Sport package
with 17" Avus rims (S8 sourcing). Seating from the upcoming TT sports car,
Quattro drivetrain and 4.2L V8 and 6-speed from A8 (US spec 4.2 for US spec
Avus obviously. An Audi Sport Steering wheel would look pretty damned cool
in it, and with that power in an all wheel drive chassis. it would scream.
Okay it might have to be made of fiberglass, but maybe they could layer
some aluminum over it on a more expensive derivative. The design could stay
essentially the same. Things like headlight assemblies and lighting would
need to be fabricated, and it couldn't sell for $25K like the Speedster,
though I think he'd have takers.
Anyone know Chuck Beck and wanna throw the idea at him? Later-G
