Headlight switch was the problem (too hot)
I recently asked about the source of the heat in my headlight switch
(1985 4000SQ). After re-wrapping the electrical wires in the trunk
hinge and replacing a frayed ground wire, I still had a lot of heat
being generated in the headlight switch with only the parking lights
on (even with the key off). It was in fact the headlight switch
presumably from something inside previously melting onto contacts,
thereby adding resistance.
