VW to compete with MB?!?!??!?!?!
If this is their plan to put VW against MB, and Audi against BMW, they are
smoking some wacky weed over there in Germany. The Audi/BMW marketing target
is right on the mark, this plan will give us faster Audis and maybee a better
marketed motorsports divison to compete with the M cars.
NOW, the VW /MB deal will fail like the Edsel in America. Can ANY of my
fellow americans see someone saying "that CLK Benz sure is cool and very
nice, but that Passat comes with a Trek Bike, so i'll spend my 40 grand on
the VW". VW's image in the USA will never allow it to compete with the big
boys. In Europe I know this is different, a maker can have a $14,000 car and
a $80,000 car, and sell them successfully side by side. The A3 isn't here
because we are a very different breed here in the states. The 80 is a good
example of that. It was a good car, but it hurt Audi's image because it was
too low on the price and prestige scale.
The Japanese were smart enough to go upscale with a different car division.
We all know that a Lexus is a dressed toyota, but since they look to be
seperate companies, they succeed at selling luxury cars.
don't ya think?
