RE: Wider tires on front...

When I bought my '84 4KQ several years ago, I took it to a very experienced
Audi mechanic to have new subframe bushings installed.  At the time, he
noticed that the tires were worn unevenly front to rear and chastised me for
letting the car run in this condition.  He has run 4KQ rally cars for years
(he informed me that the '84 was 'zee best Quattro' for this, BTW) and told
me that even the small diameter difference front to rear would cause
unnecessary wear on the driveline.  

Just another source of input, he didn't elaborate beyond this.
