My readings on the evolution of the TQC indicates that the same assembly might 
be expected for the earlier versions but as production increased there were 
several changes, especially to the rear assembly which indicates some degree of 
incompatibility. 

Certainly, the trans and rear diff is different. For example '84 4000Qs had 
lower gearing. (I believe a 4.11 ratio.)

No direct knowledge of this just from my readings.

Always thought the ticket to a cheap ll wheel drive rally car was an '84 with a 
transplanted turbo engine.
