Voltage and Oil Temp Go Bye-Bye!(Again)(Long)
My 86 Coupes voltage and oil temp indicator have
"given up the ghost" once again! This makes the third
indicating unit since I have owned the car. (11 years)
Anyone else encounter such reliability with these
colorful bar-graph indicators? Anyone ever repair
one, with good results?
I know Audi wants a small fortune for the item, and
the last one(used) I mail ordered from a salvage yard
worked marginally well! I now have 4 that malfunction
differently from each other! The little bar graphs do
strange things, or dont do at all!
In an effort to retain some indication, I have installed
another set of the Cyberdyne digital gauges in it place!
Currently I have a set of these gauges mounted atop
my dash, next to the instrument pod cover,
similar to the ABT extended dash for taxi cabs!
These indicate oil pressure, and cylinder head temp taken
from the cylinder head in back of the head. I am impressed
with the accuracy of these gauges, and their "durability"!
The cylinder head temp gauge will actually indicate the
outside
air temp to within 1 degree, when you first go out in the
morning
to start up the car! It has been doing so for 8 years!
The new voltage and oil temp gauges, are also quite
accurate, not to mention look well at home along with
the red Digital dash, of the Comm. Edition Coupe!
Price was less than $75 to do!
Currently with the Sony Cd head unit, and Digital Signal
processor
and Digital EQ, also in "Red", my entire instruments
display is
in "Digital Red".
I wonder if that color has been invented yet?
