You replace exhaust when either of the following happens: women
threaten to refuse riding in your car, police stops you or mechanic
threatens to fail inspection.  I'm going to do mine due to point 1. :-)

Seriously, while there are some engines that require exhaust to
resonate in a special way and thus help extracting the exhaust gases
out of cylinders, Audi doesn't use such setup.  So it becomes more of a
cosmetic and idle stabilizing point.
