Mazda showed a W12 in the Tokyo Motor Show in 1989 or so.  I don't know if it
was a working version or just another nicely carved block of wood.  Due to
their financial embarassment in the meantime, Mazda is unlikely to be doing
much in the way of exotic engines (or cars).

Subsequent to showing the Avus, Audi reportedly got the W12 configuration up
and running in prototype form.  As to your question about "just borrowing"
somebody elses engine, I doubt that any self-respecting car company (Ralls
Royce aside) would borrow a "foreign" engine for its flagship.
