Kind of a neat feature.  This way you can keep your eyes on something other
than the tach when you are getting on it.  It is an upshift indicator.
Goes on just before redline and lets you know it's about time to shift.
>From what I hear, these are great cars.  "indestructable" is the way I have
heard it put.  No personal experience though.
