RE: Engine mounts (& vibration)

Alex--

I also have a 87 5KCST. I recently had the exhaust manifold replaced (finally!) It was a nightmare; broken studs, cracks, waaay too much money, etc. But anyway... the motor mount that resides beneath the manifold was completely cooked. My mechanic says this is very common because of the high heat on the audi turbos. There was a heat shield but it had rusted away. By the way, I'm still getting vibration on hard accelleration even with good motor mounts. the mechanic thinks it may be inner c.v. joints. Let me know if you figure it out.

Hi List!

I've searched the archives, but cannot find definite answer to that:
How one can check if the motor mounts need replacing? They both look
good, but I suppose it doesn't mean they _are_ good. I've been
experiencing vibration at idle and when accelerating hard since I bought
the car. Nothing really serious, but I decided to finally take a look at
it. At over $70 each, I want to make sure they really need replacing.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
