Maybe answer is somewhere in archives but in last issue of lockal automotive
magazine was an article about August Horch. So just a few points...

After Horch left Horch (company) in 1909 he established a new venture in the
same city (Zwickau). Looking for another name for it he has found "audi" which
means in Latin the same as "horch" in German the same as "listen" in English.
The firs model produced in 1910 was Audi-A10/22 with four cilinder, 2612 cubic
santimeter, 22 hp engine.

With best regards,

Maxim
