Re: 5KTQ Engine mounts

Alex,

One way to check the engine mounts is to support the engine
using a floor jack under the oil pan and then loosen and
remove the lower two nuts on the mount you are checking,
the lower part of the mount will drop down from the
hydraulic action of the mount, if the mount drops down and
offers little resistance to being pushed back up then the
internal hydraulic portion of the mount is dead. Scott aka
PDQSHP suggested this test. Another possibility that will
cause the mount to flop around after being lowered is if
the upper rubber section is broken free from the upper
mounting stud. This happened on my 89 200TQ.

You may want to replace the rear tranny mounts as well,
they tend to sag over time especially if they get doused
with some Pentosin P/S fluid from a leaking steering rack.
They are pretty cheap to replace around $15 each.
